Wonder Woman Cosplay (part 3)...this is KILLING me!!

Arm Bracers After designing the bracers in Visio I traced them out onto my thinnest foam (2 mm) but looking back I wish I had gone a tad thicker. They held up fine but I was definitely worried throughout the night about them tearing. While her bracers look seamless in the movie I decided the easiest way to deal with the thinner bands of gold and silver at the top and bottom of the bracers was to just cut those out separately and glue them down onto the bracer.  I knew I was never going to be able to paint them w/out making a mess had I just left the bracer as one big piece. Securing them via straps and snaps was complicated.  I cut 2 slits in each bracer on either side and ran a strip of the faux leather through it and glued it down on the inside.  I reinforced the straps with strips of the 2 mm foam and attached snap buttons to the inside of the strips and on the opposite side of the bracer.  To secure them the straps go over the painted side, ...

Kitchen Re-model

The kitchen of my dreams...or is nightmare?? Our kitchen was actually a selling point for us when we bought the house but as the years went by and I looked at Pinterest too much I realized the kitchen was starting to get out of date and the various functional issues were starting to pile up. hen about a year ago we realized the carpet in the adjoining family room was on its last legs after suffering through a year of senior pets with bladder issues. So if we were going through the hassle of changing out the floors in the family room then maybe it was time to deal with the kitchen floor and the rest of the kitchen too. This carpet has seen WAY better days We started interviewing contractors in late summer 2017 and landed on Monova Contractors in October.  Great! We'll have a new kitchen by Christmas right? Wrong.  Next step was to work with Reico to select cabinets and counter tops, take measurements, and finalize all the little odds and ends wit the lay...

House Updates!

Been a while since I addressed the decor changes I wanted to make in the house.  I'm particularly proud of 3 of the big changes we made which I shall detail for you here... Guest Bedroom I actually love sleeping in this guest room on nights when the dogs and the husband are moving around/snoring too much! I kept thing simple since it's just a guest room and took the opportunity to of course throw in splashes of purple. Here's the "before" from the previous owners And here is the "after".  We painted it with Benajmin Moore Storm Cloud and then added deep purple curtains from Bed Bath and Beyond along with plain white shears. The night stand and table were found separately on Overstock and Wayfair amazingly. The bedding was a Madison Park set from Wayfair and the headhboard was a Wayfair purchase as well.  I just couldn't resist the bling.   The mirror, lamp, and vase were all recycled from the old house. ...

Wonder Woman Cosplay (part 2)

Wonder Woman Skirt Mental block was semi-broken and I got to work on the skirt.  Again Visio was my friend here although it probably took 5 iterations for me to get all the proportions correct.  First one was too long, next one too too wide, next one WAY too short, etc. The skirt is made up of 2 basic types of sections: the pointed vertical flaps and horizontal rectangular flaps. For the verticals I made 3 duplicate sets along with a set that was a just a bit wider/longer (for the rear) using the blue vinyl fabric.  Each set is a center pentagon flanked by a slightly shorter pentagon that is split in 2 down the middle.  I hot glued them together at the top and put in a few staples for extra measure.  For the horizontals, I made a long flap and a slightly shorter flap that covers the distance of my waist starting under my belly button to my spine minus an inch on both ends. I then created a 2 inch band the distance around my waist to attach the fla...
