Doubling Down on DC

I remember about 3 years into my relationship with Tim that I had set a 5 year expiration date on our lives in DC.  What is it with me and 5 years?  At that point, Tim had 2 more years left to propose! Anyway, neither of us want to stay in DC long term; this place just grinds you down too much.  The people suck, the traffic sucks, the work sucks...see a pattern?  So we did what any one else would do...we bought a new house...in the DC area! Well, I guess we're staying put for a while! The Hunting Process Based on some other friend's house hunting experiences, I was prepared for a long journey.  The housing market here is tough.  Anything close is in is old and small and pricey.  Anything reasonably priced (by DC standards) is in a far suburb that will lead to you spending as much time commuting as in your new house.  100 year old houses can fetch 7 figures and bidding wars are quite common. Saying "I Do" in Sin City!

So what is a girl to do when her fiance makes her have a big wedding in Cancun that she doesn't want to have?  She runs off to Vegas to get married of course! We had always known that we needed to get legally married in the US sometime before our "wedding" in Cancun.  Getting married legally in Mexico was more complex and expensive than either of us cared to deal with, so we were opting for the "symbolic" ceremony in Cancun. Which is about as binding as...well, nothing!  The last thing I wanted to do was have TWO destinations weddings (much less one), but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make my Sin City wedding dreams come true!  We booked a trip for late September and pretty much had to keep the entire thing hush-hush from everyone except my parents (who would be dog sitting) and a pair of friends we invited to join us.
